I was excited to participate in Black History Month—not just by saying the words, but by actively seeking out people from the past. I discovered individuals I never knew existed and learned how their contributions helped shape the world I now live in. I didn’t want to focus on the well-known figures like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. or Rosa Parks; instead, I wanted to go deeper, highlighting those who made a difference on a granular level—those who worked tirelessly, fought the good fight, created, owned, and patented innovations that changed history.

I was honored to learn about Sojourner Truth’s unwavering fight for justice and Lewis Latimer’s contributions to modern technology. Their stories, along with so many others, remind us that Black history is deeply woven into the fabric of our everyday lives. These aren’t just names in a textbook—they are legacies that continue to impact us in ways we often overlook.

Moving forward, I want to continue educating myself about these important figures. They are not just bones in the earth; their souls cry out to be remembered. Without them, many of the things I take for granted wouldn’t exist. I hope to continue giving a voice to their legacy.

Thank you for joining me on this journey of remembrance and appreciation.
