What You Leave Behind by Wanda M. Morris
In Wanda M. Morris's 'What You Leave Behind', a young lawyer named Deena Woods returns to her small town, only to find herself embroiled in a mystery involving strange occurrences and a decades-old secret that she had never known.
Deena Woods, seeking solitude and clarity, accidentally trespasses onto private property, only to have a confrontational encounter with the landowner. This chance incident catapults her into a deep investigation tied to Heirs Property, something she briefly encountered during her law studies, especially when the landowner mysteriously disappears.

While Deena Woods is a standout character, well-developed and relatable, the supporting cast—especially her family and the small town's community—also add depth and warmth to the narrative.
Morris's writing is superb, particularly in how she weaves paranormal elements into a murder mystery suspense, making even the most fantastical aspects feel believable and natural.
The Pacing was on par. The chapters did not drag at all. They moved at a steady pace, and I loved how each chapter was left on a slight cliffhanger.
The central themes focused on death and the spirits of those who can’t rest until a wrong has been made right.
My only critique is Deena's tendency to put herself in danger, which, while adding to the suspense, sometimes felt unnecessarily risky and made me anxious for her safety.
This book will not only keep you on the edge of your seat but also provoke thoughts about the complexities of family legacies and property rights.
I rate this book five out of five stars for its compelling narrative and insightful exploration of intricate themes. It truly deserves a ten for its impeccable blend of mystery and emotion.
