Hi,

This will be quick. I know I’m late! I feel like I’m forever rushing around like a chicken with its head cut off. September came and went, and now the fall weather is slowly creeping in. You probably like the cold seasons. I don’t. One good thing, though: I won’t have to deal with those pesky Joro spiders. But it means other creepy varmints will likely cause me to pull my hair out.

What’s Ahead / Writing

I sent my novella to my editor. It’s the first story in a new series! I also finished outlining the next novella in the series. I probably overdid it because it’s very long and detailed, but that’s me. I tend to overdo things sometimes.

What I’m Reading / Read

I don’t want to talk about this. I failed with a big fat F! However, a few days ago, I started rereading some of my old favorite novels. They say to be a writer you must be a reader, and truthfully, it does help.

What I’m Watching / Watched

Couple sits on a couch, smiling and watching a blank TV while one holds a remote in a bright living room.

🎬 Movie Quote: “Look at me, Ernest, just look at me, I’m all wet!”

I watched too much TV this time, which could explain why I can’t finish a book...lol. But that’s me in a nutshell. For a few months all I do is read, then I get burned out, then it’s a ton of movies. Speaking of which, here are my movie and TV recommendations, a few oldies and newbies:

  • The Last Boy Scout (Bruce Willis & Damon Wayans)

  • Death Becomes Her (this is actually a very funny movie, starring Bruce Willis, Meryl Streep & Goldie Hawn)

  • The Lost Boys (I had never watched this one before, although I knew about it. I thought it was too scary for me. It stars Corey Haim, Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Feldman & Jami Gertz)

  • The Mirror Has Two Faces (a favorite of mine, starring Barbra Streisand, Jeff Bridges & Lauren Bacall)

  • Gremlins 1 & 2 (Zach Galligan & Phoebe Cates)

  • King Arthur (I love this movie, starring Keira Knightley, Clive Owen & Stephen Dillane)

  • The Hunger Games (the complete series, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson & Elizabeth Banks)

  • The Bourne movies (all of them, starring Matt Damon & Julia Stiles)

  • Pieces of Her (I like this one, starring Toni Collette & Bella Heathcote)

  • The Pendragon Cycle: The Rise of Merlin (starring Rose Reid, Tom Sharp & James Arden. It was a good series, and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it)

  • Imperfect Women (pretty good series, starring Kerry Washington, Elisabeth Moss & Kate Mara)

  • Last Seen (a good British series, starring Patrick Brammall, Brendan Cowell & Chloe Jean Lourdes)

Do you know about Harlan Coben? I’ve never read his books, but I do know who he is. Several of his books are now popular series on Netflix. I watched I Will Find You about two months ago. Then two weeks ago I watched Safe, followed by Fool Me Once. Both were excellent series.

More recommendations:

  • Murder in a Small Town (starring Rossif Sutherland & Kristin Kreuk. I really liked this series, and there are two full seasons on Apple TV. It’s also based on a book series, and the town sheriff is the real-life son of Donald Sutherland)

  • Doing Life (it was good, starring Naomi Baker & Jay Reeves)

  • Below (a good series, not great, just good, starring Josh Hartnett & Mackenzie Davis)

  • Animal (it was okay, starring Kerry Washington & Ben Affleck)

  • Reacher (one of my favorite series, starring Alan Ritchson, Agnez Mo & Sydelle Noel)

  • Neagley (starring Maria Sten. It’s a spinoff of Reacher, and it was good. I’ve always loved her character on Reacher)

Thanks for reading The Mash Up. This will be the last one for the year, as I have so much to do in November and December. I’ll be back after the New Year! Wow, it’s going to be 2027. My mouth can barely say the word, and my brain is having a hard time processing it.

Well, anyway, I pray the rest of October finishes strong for you. And with the holidays upon us, I hope they’re filled with fun, joy, and blessings.

Talk to you soon!

Nola.
